In Hoc Signo Vinces

"In this sign thou shalt conquer"

Constantine the Great was a Roman Emperor who ruled between 306 and 337 AD.
He was the son of Flavius Valerius Constantius (Blond-haired Strong Steadfast), a Roman Army officer. His mother was Empress Helena. In her final years, she made a religious tour of Syria Palaestina and Jerusalem, during which she allegedly discovered the True Cross. Voragine writes that the True Cross came from a tree that grew from part of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, or "the tree that Adam ate of".
Oct. 27, the day before the two armies would battle outside of Rome near the Milvian Bridge, Constantine had a vision instructing him to fight. The symbol was an intersection of the chi (X) and rho (P)
