THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE

Claim: Electromagnetic waves in the visible wavelengths are themselves facts, data being transmitted to the processor that allows perception to occur. Until you see the light, it's not informing anything, so it wouldn't be right to call it information. The light wave.

Me: Did you think light was electric or magnetic?

You: It's both, as far as I understand

Me: Oh, that's not what I heard. Those are electron properties.

You: Isn't it called an electromagnetic wave?

Me: Right. 'light' is a misnomer.

You: I just meant visible spectrum electromagnetic waves.

Me: 'Visible' means it's a perception. Can perception move at the speed of light?

You: No. Perception is the speed of our ability to process the data we receive from the receptor. Doesn't matter if we're talking about light or sound or any other sense.perception isn't just the senses, it's the sum of our interface with the external reality. Which brings us back to how we got on this set of topics.

Me: If color is a perception, why do we call it light?

You: Which would be that we can't ever really know "true" reality because all that we have to work with is our perception.

Me: If color is a perception, why do we call it light?

You: Because language is messy and imperfect.

Me: I'm using logic to show you how some claims are nonsense. Calling an electronic phenomenon ‘light’ has no basis.

You: Which claims?

Me: That an electronic phenomenon, the electromagnetic wave should be called light.

You: I'm not really following you here.

Me: Maybe you'll have to think about it for a while.

You: Light just colloquially means the visible wavelengths.

Me: But it's wrong. Light isn't electronic. How fast do you think waves move?
